Yoga & Pilates Afternoon

at Netherby Hall

Come and celebrate summer! Join us for a Summer Yoga & Pilates afternoon at stunning Netherby Hall, near Longtown, Cumbria- The beautiful garden and grounds are the perfect place to unwind, spend some time on yourself and connect with nature. Find your inner sunshine with an afternoon of yoga & pilates to really breathe, energise and stretch the body, soothe the mind and relax the whole of you.

We will practice the traditional aspects of yoga: Asana (physical postures and sequences), Pranayama (traditional breath techniques), Meditation and Savasana (relaxation). Pepita will also take us through a mindful Pilates session.

These longer sessions allow time to explore and realise the benefits of yoga practices for the body, mind and soul.

I am Catriona and I have been practicing yoga for almost 30 years and teaching for 7 years now. I trained with The British Wheel of Yoga and continue to learn more, (I have just completed level 1 of Yin Yoga teacher training). I am a yoga enthusiast who has benefited from the practices of yoga since I started learning all about it and know how the science of yoga can help in our everyday lives- physically keeping our bodies mobile and strong but also supporting us with the ups and downs life throws at us, through breathing and relaxation techniques which bring calm and balance and help us relax.

Pepita is a fully qualified and insured pilates teacher who has practiced pilates for more than 15 years and has taught for 10.  She has significant experience of working with people with neurological conditions as well as those who have had hip and knee replacements and has worked with physiotherapists to provide continued rehabilitation.

 “Pilates is excellent for strengthening muscles and mobility and great for those with back problems; arthritis, shoulder, neck or hip problems or for anyone who wants to get more flexible and build more core strength”.  

There will be an well earned Afternoon Tea included provided by the Netherby Hall team.

This afternoon workshop is suitable for all levels of experience including beginners.

 Gemma will lead you through a relaxing sound bath while you absorb the many benefits of sound therapy

Spring Yoga Morning - Nourish & Renew

Sunday 9th March 2025, from 9.30am - 12.30pm

Spring flowers

Join us for a morning of yoga and relaxation as we leave the shorter, darker days of winter behind and transition into Spring. We will nourish ourselves with the grounding practices of yoga to re-awaken and re-energise our bodies and minds for the season ahead. Spring is a time for renewal, growth and re-connection with others and the world around us.
During this longer practice we will explore a range of yoga practices: intention setting, yoga movement & postures (asana), breathing techniques (pranayama), meditation, relaxation (savasana) and allowing time for you to simply be. The workshop will run from 9.30am-12.30pm with a break for a hot drink and some homemade cake.
You are welcome from 9.15 for a pre-workshop brew. Please let me know if you would like to reserve a space.

Restorative Yoga & Relaxation Sessions

Monday 17th February 2025

12-2pm AND 6.45pm-8.45pm

Come and join us for a truly nourishing experience: I offer these sessions every so often to allow a real chance to rest in amongst day to day life.
Restorative yoga allows your body and mind to rest:
In restorative yoga, your body is fully supported by props so that you can fully let go in every part of your body. Postures are held for longer periods of time to encourage the nervous system to relax.
A great time to turn our attention inwards too, we will have a chance to meditate and work with the breath techniques of yoga - pranayama, and of course a longer relaxation ( savasana), so you feel rested and restored.
Benefits of restorative yoga include bolstering the immune system, releasing physical tension, mental and emotional healing, anxiety and stress relief, generally promoting mental and physical wellbeing.
Please bring your mat, 2 cushions or pillows and 2 blankets, all the other props are provided. There will be time for some yogi chi tea too.
Suitable for all.

New Year Yoga Workshop “Connection”

The theme of this workshop will be “Connection” - a chance for you to go deeper into the science of yoga and all it has to offer, a time to connect and bring nourishment to your body, mind and soul. We will focus on different ways to connect with our physical body through yoga asana and sequences, with our breath and minds through breath practices (pranayama), and meditation. Finally to rest the body and mind - some restorative yoga and relaxation (savasana). Re-connecting to who we truly are.

The cost is £33 to be paid at time of booking. There will be hot drinks AND CAKE!

Spring Yoga Workshop

At this time of year there is a short-lived period of fertile energy as the days get longer and warmer- we adopt an outward, optimistic focus as we push ahead with projects close to our hearts: a time for growth and reaching out to others, for connection and collaboration. We will work through a range of yoga practices including: yoga movement, breath work, meditation, relaxation, intention setting and time to simply be.

Another opportunity to enjoy Yoga and an amazing sound bath. Becky Dalgleish is joining us again to offer this sound experience. I will guide you through a gentle yoga and breath practice followed by the Sound Bath session delivered by Becky. This should be a truly lovely experience for you and we are excited to be able to offer this to the Langholm yogis!

Becky studied with the British Academy of Sound Therapy (BAST), achieving a Practitioner Level Diploma in Sound Therapy (PL.Dip.ST) . Becky is trained in one to one therapy as well as group sound baths.

“Sound therapy uses sound, music and specialist instruments played in therapeutic ways to improve health and wellbeing.   I use tonal instruments including Himalayan bowls, crystal singing bowls and gongs, as well as rhythmic instruments.  Combining all these instruments in a very specific way has been shown to affect physiology, neurology and psychology. As well as observing the sensations which arise during the sound bath, we will discuss self-reflective techniques which look at the human mind-body-energy system, as a guide towards self-realisation.   I invite you to come along and explore the sensation of sound and to immerse yourself and see what you discover.” 

The cost is £20.

 At this special time of the Winter Solstice we will gather for 2 hours of nourishing yoga practice including restorative yoga to deeply relax and rest the body and mind,, a meditation and full savasana (relaxation), all by candlelight so we can truly let go........Restorative Yoga uses props to support the body in a series of asanas ( poses), We will finish off with a Chai Yogi tea.

This is a longer session allowing time to let your worries fade away and relax your body, mind and soul by re- connecting inwards to your authentic self.
